Latest Update: Australia’s virus-hit state of Victoria has reported its worst-case rise. 20 Nepalese from Victoria are reported positive with COVID-19, according to latest information received from NRNA VIC-Coordinator Prem Kandel, there are more than 20 cases which will be confirmed very soon where 4 of them are already in hotel quarantine.
As stated by NRNA VIC-Coordinator Prem Kandel, “Nepalese students and one NRNA member have got infected where one new student also got infected. This student is living with his/her friends so we’re trying to manage hotel quarantine. All of his/her housemates will get COVID-19 test very soon. Some of those infected people are keeping it private and staying in their homes, as they are afraid of getting public.”
He added, “NRNA is providing $120 worth of groceries to make some ease to every infected Nepalese looking at their situation, this groceries is delivered to their address.” NRNA is managing hotel quarantine for those infected people, who are willing to stay in hotel quarantine and this information will be kept private accordingly.
Among these infected people, NRNA member is in hotel quarantine whereas 4 of others are in home isolation as they got separate rooms and bathrooms. In Victoria, the majority of Nepalese are involved in Hospitality, Aged care, and Health sector so the chances of getting infected are very high. Earlier 4 Nepalese were tested positive and they have totally recovered by this time.
Nepalese Association of Victoria NAV, Didibahini Samaj, and other similar organizations have been helping Nepalese who are affected by COVID-19. The Victorian government has also announced to provide AUD 300 for every individual who got tested with COVID-19, if they meet the eligibility of the existing scheme.
